Engine
Probably the biggest 4-cylinder engine in any production car, the Shogun’s punchy, double overhead camshaft, 16-valve, turbocharged and intercooled, 3.2 litre, direct injection diesel engine has always provided masses of low-down torque yet never runs out of power in the mid-range. And now it is even better – much better. It is quieter, it is more economical, and it is cleaner: in fact, it is cleaner and more economical than any other authentic 4x4 you can buy. What’s more, performance has been improved too, with increased power and torque resulting in an increase in the towing capacity and 0-62mph figures which have positively tumbled.
5-Speed Automatic
This accomplished 5-speed automatic transmission provides smooth gear changes and enhanced fuel economy during motorway driving. Its electronic control can adapt to your driving style, while the Sports Mode facility offers clutchless manual gearshifting for instant response.
Super Select 4WD
The Shogun’s highly capable Super Select system provides four drive modes: 2H (2WD High range) gives quieter running and better fuel consumption during normal on-road driving: 4H (4WD High range), selectable at speeds up to 62mph, distributes torque between front and rear axles via a centre differential (CD) with VCU - the latter permits safer on-road driving in slippery conditions; 4HLc (4WD High range with CD locked) improves traction on snow, sand or dirt roads by distributing torque equally front and rear; 4LLc (4WD Low range with CD locked) provides greater torque for extreme off-road conditions.
Six Airbags
To keep occupants safe in the event of a collision, Shogun comes with a 6-airbag system to provide protection from all sides. Curtain airbags extending along both sides protect front and 2nd-row occupants in a side collision, while the 1st-row occupants are additionally protected by front and side airbags.
M-ASTC (Mitsubishi Active Stability and Traction Control)
Active Stability Control - If sensors located throughout the vehicle detect unstable movement, such as lateral slippage, the Stability Control function automatically controls the brakes and engine output to stabilise the vehicle.
Traction Control - If the sensors detect wheel slip when starting on slick surfaces, such as a snow-covered road, the Traction Control function automatically brakes the slipping wheel and governs engine output to enable a smoother start.
ABS with EBD
Lateral slippage can easily occur if the rear wheels lock up due to braking hard on slippery surfaces or braking hard when at high speeds. ABS suppresses this by controlling the brakes' hydraulic pressure. EBD adjusts the rear wheels’ braking force to the number of occupants and load to deliver braking force that is ideally matched to almost any situation.
Suspension
The Shogun's suspension system employs front double wishbones and a rear multi-link set-up with front and rear stabiliser bars and coil springs all round to provide superior ride comfort and surefooted cornering. The fully independent suspension design enhances axle articulation, essential to maintain traction in extreme off-road driving situations by keeping the wheels in contact with the ground as much as possible.
Steering
The Shogun’s rack & pinion steering system provides outstanding manoeuvrability, with a tight turning circle and better steering accuracy than a traditional recirculating ball system.
Cruise Control
Cruise control, accessed via convenient steering wheel mounted buttons, allows more relaxed driving on longer journeys when traffic levels allow by letting you remove your feet from the pedals. It is cancelled and driver control regained instantly when either the clutch or brake pedals are pressed.

MMCS (Mitsubishi Multi Communication System) & HDD (Hard Disk Drive)
MMCS - The Mitsubishi Motors Communication System colour screen presents a wealth of driver information, including audio settings and the display from the fast and efficient satellite navigation system.
HDD - The 30-gigabyte Hard Disk Drive behind the MMCS holds the satellite navigation system and also acts as a music server, able to store up to 2,000 songs and removing the need to carry CDs around in the car. It even incorporates a CDDB (CD Data Base) to relay track information to the MMCS screen.
Bluetooth
The Parrot Bluetooth interface, integrated with the Kenwood multimedia unit, employs voice recognition technology for safer hands-free operation of a compatible mobile phone whilst driving. Phone books from up to five compatible handsets can be downloaded to the system.
Bluetooth
The built-in Bluetooth interface system allows safer hands-free operation of a compatible mobile phone whilst driving, employing voice recognition technology and steering wheel-mounted buttons. Phone books from up to seven compatible handsets can be downloaded to the system, which additionally has its own phone book for instant access to those frequently-used numbers.
Steering Wheel Controls
For convenience and safety, remote audio and cruise control buttons are conveniently positioned on the steering wheel.
Steering Wheel Controls
A number of functions have been grouped together on the steering wheel for convenience and safety. Remote audio controls (left-hand side), cruise control (right-hand side) and Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone control (lower) are all positioned for easy operation.
Reversing Camera
Engaging reverse gear activates a rear-mounted camera which relays a colour image of the area immediately behind the vehicle to the screen of the Kenwood multimedia unit, allowing parking manoeuvres to be made with confidence. It is also useful when reversing up to caravan or trailer hitches.
